POST ELECTION

The election will be over in just 5 short days (easy for a non-candidate to say) after 20 long months of campaigning. If things turn out like it seems they will on the national scene this may very well be one of the best times to pick up support for the FairTax within the congress. But it will take some grassroots Democrats getting passionate about it. Laurence J. Kotikoff, professor of economics at Boston University and economic advisor to Democratic presidential hopeful early in the primaries, Mike Gravel, says in a paper written January 15, 2008, "The Fair Tax represents a significant tax reform proposal that deserves to be taken seriously." I couldn't agree more. Given the current economic climate. He goes on to say, "that requires examining the proposal itself." My belief is that is where we have failed most miserably with our Democratic elected officials. We have assumed they would do that on their own instead of trying to educate them. They have resisted reading the Fair Tax books because of their authors (one in particular) are so outspoken and conservative. Let me suggest that you print out this article, it is only 17 pages long and mail it to your representatives pointing out it is written by a Democrat. The article to which I'm referring is located here. Let me know what kind of response you get. Of course wait until the election is over and the climate has cooled (no pun intended).

WHY?

Phil Henson reported that many in Georgia are aware, we have been working on Rep. David Scott (D/GA 13th) for several years now. He has treated us with courtesy and respect and although he has not co-sponsored the FairTax bill, he did post some positive comments about the FairTax on his website at one time and indicated that he would be inclined to vote for it if it were to come to a vote on the floor of the house. However now he is in a fight to keep his seat in the House of Representatives and has chosen to use the FairTax as a divisive issue. Please go here or write him at 173 North Main Street, Jonesboro, GA 30236 , and respectfully let Mr. Scott know that the FairTax is not an issue to be partisan on. Let him know the FairTax is what America needs at this important time. It can be the real "bailout" we need to get this economy back on its feet and America prosperous and fully employed again.

DAN BOEN - OK 2ND DISTRICT

The following is taken from Wikipedia on Dan Boren:

Boren is a cosponsor of H.R. 25, the FairTax Act, which replaces federal taxes with a flat sales tax. This legislation attracted 59 members in the 109th Congress, more than any other tax reform proposal. (It is now has 72 co-sponsors with the current Congress)

In 2004 Boren beat his Republican opponent 65.89% to 24.11%; in 2006 he won 72.74% to 27.26%. That is pretty impressive. I firmly believe that his support of the FairTax is a huge contributing factor to such resounding victories.

Rep Boren is a member of the Blue Dog Democrat Coalition which has 47 members. This coalition would be a great place to begin increasing support for the FairTax among Democrats in Congress. I encourage everyone to contact Rep Boren and petition him to promote the FairTax among this coalition.

Here is a list of the other members of this coalition. Let's not leave it solely to Rep Boren to solicit the support of this important legislation. Let's contact these members and emphasize that more than ever in these challanging economic times the FairTax would be a big step toward our economic recovery.

CAMPAIGNS

Sen Lindsey Graham and Democratic challenger Bob Conley dueled it out in a debate on Saturday Oct. 11, 2008. D. H. Williams reported on dailynewscaster.com that Bob Conley rightfully points out that American labor cannot compete “with slave labor in Communist China.” With the FairTax, those jobs now being done by "slave labor in Communist China," will be brought back to America because the disadvantage to the American worker will be eliminated with the abolishing of the income tax in favor of a consumption tax. Why punish people willing to work? It doesn't make sense. Bob Conley really hit the nail on the head.

In another heated debate in the Kentucky's 2nd district to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Ron Lewis, Democrat David Boswell got the latest in a string of boosts from Washington on Thursday when a group of nearly 50 moderate and conservative congressional Democrats endorsed his bid to represent Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District as reported by Lexington Herald-Leader Newspaper. I could not find an endorsement of the FairTax on his website but I will be trying to contact him to see where he stands on H.R. 25 and I encourage everyone to also make such contacts to see where he stands on this important legislation. His contact information is info@kentuckiansforboswell.com Let me know if you get a response from him or his campaign and I will do the same.

MAKING HEADLINES

People underestimate the power of the FairTax (H.R. 25/S 1025) as an issue. Mike Huckabee made a strong showing in the Republican primary season. The media gave credit to the Christian evangelicals. That is only a part of the story. The REAL story behind the Huckabee success was his outspoken support of the FairTax. It is hard to estimate how many supporters of the Fair Tax there are because it has never been put to a vote nationally (yet.) But I have been involved as a volunteer for the FairTax for approximately 9 years. Being involved in numerous events, it is my observation when people know the facts they favor the FairTax over ALL other alternatives to the status quo of the current system. People have seen and are tired of politicians of both political parties tinkering with the income tax system. The current code is so complex no one, and I repeat NO ONE, can understand and comply with it. It is over a staggering 60,000 pages in length. It must be, not tinkered with, REPLACE!

I digressed. Wikipedia states that Lindsey Graham "is not expected to face substantive Democratic opposition for a second term." Has the author of that article not heard that his Democratic opponent is a supporter of the FairTax and that there is a strong FairTax base in South Carolina? Could Lindsey Graham wake up November 5th unemployed? Considering Senator Graham's notoriety, wouldn't that make national headlines? Send Lindsey Graham a note and Bob Conley a donation if you can showing your support of candidates that support the FairTax.

WHAT IMPRESSES YOU?

We live in an enlightened age with more educational institutions than ever before. Academia is revered not only in this country but around the world. Studies are done on every imaginable subject (and some unimaginable ones.) We are bombarded with the results of these studies. Any idea someone has that they want to promote they preface it by saying a study shows... We rarely hear how scientific that study was or who it was done by, therefore in reality the "study" is only a sales pitch.

That is not the case with the FairTax. There has been more research and study done on the development of the FairTax than any other tax proposal we hear about. We activists and volunteers get so caught up in promoting the FairTax, educating friends and neighbor thinking, that with our explanations people will automatically "see the light" and join the cause. But often I think we forget in our enthusiasm that some people are not so easily impressed. If you happen to be one of those people let me encourage you to dedicate some serious time exploring the research section at FairTax.org. You will be impressed. Get your facts from the experts who have done the research, crunched the numbers and then drawn educated conclusions.

The FairTax concept is spread by an ever growing number of tens of thousands but we continually encounter publications and political candidates that spew ideas and falsehoods without doing due diligence or research. Check the real research for yourself.
